HI,
I AM WONDERING HOW I CAN FIND PICTURES OF SHIPMATES FROM THE USS UHLMANN DD-687 (1964-1968) AND
THE USS MCNAIR DD-679 (1968-1972)
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO KNOW HOW I COULD FIND ABOOK THAT TALKS ABOUT BOTH DETROYERS IN DETAIL AND
ITS CREWS DURING THESE TIMES...
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I AM LOOKING FOR PICTURES AND WHATNOT ABOUT MY DAD.
I WOULD LIKE TO BUY A USS MCNAIR CIGARETTE LIGHTER IF YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO HAS ONE FOR SALE.
A FRIEND OF MINE HAD ONE WHILE ABOARD THE MCNAIR AND HE BENT OVER AND LOST IT OVERBOARD AND HAS
WANTED ONE SINCE, SO I WOULD LIKE TO FIND ONE FOR HIM IF THATS POSSIBLE.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP....
BEST WISHES
TERESA
Date: Sun, 24 May 1998 My name is Randy Coleman and I was stationed aboard the Uhlmann as a Fire Control Technician. I reported aboard in June 1961 and departed for separation on 14 April 1964. I advanced from seaman to FTG2 while aboard. The attached picture is one of those pictures which were sold by a salesman and came framed with a paper mask with the crewman's name, rate, and some cruise info along with the ship's ribbons. This picture is just the photograph which is a B/W picture dyed for a blue-green sea and a light blue sky. The picture resolution is quite good but the dye job is terrible with the dye smearing over much of the ship's detail. I have reduced the size by 50% for this attachment. I can send the entire original if more suitable. Hope you will use it since the Uhlmann page does not yet have any pictures. Randy Coleman
Date: Fri, 08 Aug 1997 I was stationed aboard UHLMANN from the spring of 1965 till the spring of 1968. During this time I rose to IC3. In 1980 I had the first UHLMANN reunion here in Springfield, Ohio. In 1988 I re-entered the NAVY through the Reserve program as an HM@. Currently I am with a Navy weapons unit as the leading HM!. Looking forward to hearing from members of the UHLMANN crew at retfire@icsnet.com. HM1 Jerry M. Satterfield USNR
