DD 964 (Spruance class)
The E-mail:
Subject: DD 963;964 Hello, I was watching the History channel today and they were showing ships firing defense systems, etc. One of the ships appeard to be a Spruance class destroyer. Just for kicks I did a search and found your site. The reason for my interest is that I was employed at Ingall's shipyard as a shipfitter and, along with three other men, set the superstructures on DD 963 and 964. After launching of DD 963, I was selected to go to the wet dock on the East Bank yard and finish out the superstructure. This has always been a source of pride for me and I enjoyed the work that I did there. Also, the hull of LHA-1 was still sitting on the building skids while I was there. An interesting time all around. Thanks, Robert E. Baker |
