DE 587 (Rudderow Class)
The E-mail: 9/3/07: Dear Sir, I was just going through some of my fathers papers he had in an envelope that he gave me when he became sick. My father, WILLIAM BRUFF WANSLEBEN, served on the USS Nickel and the USS Ormsby. His date of entry into active service was 9/29/42 and he was discharged on 7/24/59. His title: "radioman, first class usnr-s1". The remarks listed are: Point system, Good conduct, American area, Victory medal, Asiatic-Pacific. I just went on to Google and keyed in the USS Nickel and Ormsby and your website just followed. Thank you for letting me add my father you your great history website. Sincerely,

I'm sending you a couple of pictures my dad served on the Nickel during WWII in the Philippines I don't know what his rank was of hand but I do know he was a radio operator. I'm not sure how long he served on her but I think till the war ended. Plus I have a couple more pictures one of the USS Johnson and the USS grady. I wish my dad was still alive so I could show him this site he died in 1997, He had a lot of great stories and there is probably more picture in his photo albums that my mom has. Anyway I thought you might like to post these pictures. Thanks Sincerely, Mike P. Weinrich
Subject: USS THOMAS F. NICKEL - Philip A. Weinrich Hi Mark, Here are a few photos of our Dad on the USS Nickel. I don't know if you can post these on the web site. But thought you might like to see them. I did not find any photos of other ships that my brother has not already sent you. But anyway hope you can use these somewhere. One photo is the Radio Gang on Solomon Island. I have been doing some searching for other sites that have some of the crew members. But no luck so far, So if you have any info on any of the crew members I would appreciate the info on them. Thanks, Dave Weinrich
