  • Water Line
    Waterline- Thick black line painted horozontialy around the bottom of the ship close to the water.
  • Water king
    Similar to the oil king, a petty officer whose duty it is to sound the ship’s fresh water tanks.
  • White hat
    An enlisted man in the Navy.
  • Wig Wag
    Semaphore signals. These are often unofficially conducted between signalmen during an UNREP and are traditionally a major source of scuttlebut.
  • Window
    Metal chafe disbursed by World War Two Japanese aircraft, intended to "confuse" ship-borne radar.
